Burnaby Bright Bliss
Homeowners of this recent Burnaby condo renovation loved their low-rise condo and neighbourhood, so chose to renovate instead of move. The design team at My House Design/Build/Team chose a soft grey palette to work with, which nicely offset the new warm hardwood floors and dramatic vein pattern used in kitchen and bathroom quartz counters.
Opening up a Small Condo Kitchen
These homeowners wanted to open up their small kitchen to get more storage, more counter space and room to gather. We added a new beam to take the load from a wall that needed to go, which also meant two small skylights could become one. The kitchen became L-shaped with an 8’ island with seating for four.
To create drama, we used a large veined waterfall white quartz countertop on the kitchen island. A crane was used to bring this very large piece (no seams) through balcony doors.
Brightness and light were important considerations in this project because of varying ceiling heights, sloped ceilings and existing skylights. Designers made a plan to brighten the space efficiently, as well as including cable-mounted pendant lights above the island.
Other upgrades in the kitchen included new upgraded appliances, an induction cooktop, recycling and compost center and more.

Follow this project through its amazing transformation. Because of the large scale changes, our camera angles may shift from before to after.
Using Structural Glass and Skylights in Renovations
The couple wanted to use more structural glass in their home, and we were happy to help with ideas. On the stairs, white spindles were replaced with structural glass pieces. A partition between a stairwell and laundry was changed to glass to allow more light into a dark hallway. Shower partitions were upgraded to artistic structural glass.
Upgraded Bathrooms
The bathroom was upgraded as part of this Burnaby condo renovation. We swapped out the typical 1980’s tub with framed sliding shower door for a modern tiled shower. Motion sensor lights under the new bathroom vanity light the path at night. New heated floor tiles with programmable thermostats and new quiet fans keep things cozy and dry.
