Energy Efficiency and New Lighting – Key to this Greater Vancouver kitchen renovation

Updating the dated, inefficient lighting in this Vancouver area kitchen renovation was a key task. A combination of new LED ceiling pot-lights, under-cabinet puck-lights, and pendant lighting for sink and peninsula works perfectly to brighten up the space. The new, larger windows in the back of the home let in more natural light, thus saving energy as the kitchen lighting is less needed during the day.

To be more efficient in warming the home, energy efficient windows and doors were installed, and the engineered 7 1/2 -inch White Oak flooring throughout the space adds visual and actual warmth.

Improving Kitchen Functionality

By removing walls between the kitchen and dining rooms, the space is further opened-up. The previous layout also required the family to travel, unnecessarily, though the kitchen, so alternate paths were designed to avoid this.

The existing kitchen had inefficient food preparation areas so the new linear L-shaped island provides additional food prep space and room for working homework, reading the newspaper, and entertaining. The convenient placement of the built-in, EnergyStar appliances further expedites food prep (and energy) efficiency.

The striking custom-made white, shaker style cabinets stretch floor to (9-foot) ceiling and the sleek, chrome cabinetry handles add the perfect accent contrast.
